Humphrey Spender

Pre-WW II acclaimed English photographer of 'humanist landscapes'; later concentrated on painting and textile design, as a result of concern over the ethics of documentary photography; his preoccupation with the environment is reflected in a number of later paintings, such as:

Gravel Pit, 1968

Cornish Tin Mines, 1969 and 1971

Reedy Pool, Essex, 1969

His love of unspoilt nature is seen in:

Donegal Coastscape, 1969

Donegal Landscape, 1969

Walled Landscape, Kerry, 1969.
