Patrick Procktor (1936 - 2003)

Patrick Procktor studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in 1958. He was influenced by William Coldstream, Keith Vaughan, William Townsend, Claude Rogers, Robert Medley and others, developing a painting style in the dark, figurative tradition of the time. He travelled to Italy and Greece with Michael Upton and on his return produced a number of large figures in landscapes that formed the basis of his first sell-out exhibition at the Redfern Gallery in 1962, which was the start of a lifelong partnership with the gallery. He was later elected a member of the Royal Academy in 1995.
