Alan Davie dies aged 93

Artist Alan Davie, who has work in our collection, has sadly died today aged 93.

The Tate gallery describes his work as "kaleidoscopic canvases", which came about as "the result of an improvisatory process that the artist relates to his love of jazz". A love of jazz which was also seen in Davie's love of playing saxophone. As well as being in the Pembroke JCR Art Fund Collection, his work is being displayed at Tate Britain as part of the BP Spotlights series from 14 April. "Alan Davie died peacefully at home on 5th April," according to Gimpel Fils gallery, London, where more of Davie's work will be on show later this month.
