We’ve had a great year (academic year that is) at Pembroke JCR Art Collection. Trinity term saw us host another great Pembroke at the Ashmolean, which was even bigger and better than last year. In the same week, our arts rep created a jam packed arts week programme.
But our biggest success, by far, has been opening the gallery to the public. We’ve had more people through the door than we could have ever expected, and we’ve loved meeting and showing each and every one of you around our gallery. To coincide with this opening, we hosted our very first major loans show, a ground breaking show which placed the works of husband and wife, John Bratby and Jean Cooke side by side. The Bratby Cooke show inspired such a great reaction in the Pembroke community that we decided to Purchase one of the loaned works that was on show to add to our collection. We are now the very proud owners of Cinema Paradiso by Jean Cooke.
Next year is already shaping up to be very exciting as well as continuing to be open to the public twice a week, we’re also putting together a programme world class speakers. We’ll be hosting the likes of Anthony D’Offay and Paul Hobson of Modern Art Oxford, Phillip Vann who is a British modernism expert, and the arts writer Will Gompertz.
See you in Michaelmas!
